There was this one time when I stayed in Saskatchewan for Grade 12 while Mom & Dad moved out to BC. It did allow some freedoms that many or most of my friends didn’t have. One of them was eating in my room downstairs. I won’t lie, I was somewhat reticent in returning dish ware to the kitchen on a regular basis. Anyway all my room furniture was shipped out to BC immediately after grad. Upon opening the bottom drawer of my dresser and finding not just a living, breathing, but a THRIVING ecosystem of various creatures that had made the journey in their new home around my leftovers, Carol Ferro was… Well the nice way to say it is she was apoplectic.
Moments ago went looking for some colourful markers in The Kid Talia’s room to brighten up the wrapping on her Grade 7 grad present. I found them in the bottom drawer, AMONG. OTHER. THINGS. With a shaky hand I completed my task. I won’t like it, but now I gotta go up there and handle it.
I miss my Momma terribly in many ways and for many reasons, but at this particular moment, I wish she was around to unleash a full-throated cackle after I explain to her how uncomfortably close to the tree the apple fell.
